Save the Last Dance for Me

Dear Reader, Dating. Dancing. Dating a dancer. Dancing on a date. Dancing with a dancer on a date in the dance hall that is meant for dating. Ok, that's the last one. Right now I am attending a beginning social dance class and the comparisons between dancing and dating seem never-ending! That is what I want to share with you today: what things I have learned in dancing that can be applied to dating/relationships/marriage. Obviously Dale is not an expert in either of these areas, but hopefully you can get a couple of laughs. Guys should take the lead . It's not illegal for a girl to lead, it just is not very complimenting to the man. In dating, it seems to work out better when the guy is assertive and works hard to take care of the girl. Guys should not try anything the girl doesn't want to do/isn't ready for. In dancing, a really good leader can take a girl through lots of dance steps she doesn't know or is not prepared for. Likewise, a gentleman always ta...

This is Real, This is Me

Dear Reader,  There are some things in life that are just unattainable in a lifetime. The culture of Flamenco dancing/music is one of those things. There are so many influences from different areas of the world that no one knows where it started really. It is kind of like milking a cow; no one really knows who the first person was to look at a cow’s utters and think, “Let’s drink what comes out of those!” It is something that is amazing but has little known about its origin. Anyway, that was a random tangent. Allow me to return to this week’s trip. The three dancers for the show (See below) We took a trip to Córdoba, Sevilla and Granada this week. Wednesday night was the highlight, possibly the best night of the entire program (There is still another month, so we will see if that holds true). The night consisted of a trip to the only Flamenco Museum in the world, which resides in Sevilla.   It was kind of an adventure getting there because the building is on a ...

A Letter to Me

Dear Reader, Have you ever heard the song "Letter to Me" by Brad Paisley? It elaborates on an interesting idea of writing to a younger version of himself. What would you write to yourself at a younger age? I have often thought about time travel and changing the past and have discovered a few things. First of all, if something in the past is changed, the entire future is altered. For example, if you write a letter to yourself at the age of 18 with instructions to not participate in a certain activity, your memory of that activity is erased and the opportunities and lessons learned from the experience are lost, perhaps never to be returned. That means that if it were possible to change the past, you could only change one thing about it. If you want to know more about this concept, I suggest that you watch the Back to the Future trilogy (1985). However, if we ignore this first discovery, it is fun to think about what might have been if we did things differently. How would ...

Just Dance!

Dear Reader, Some days I wonder why dancing is so popular among humans. I mean, why would someone want to put themselves in such uncomfortable positions and work so hard for pretty much nothing? Then there are days like today when I realize that dancers create something beautiful. Just as a little background, this weekend is the Brigham Young University Dancesport competition. There are dancers who come from all over Utah, not to mention the hundreds of students from BYU, and they compete. Actually, tomorrow I will dance tomorrow with my wonderful partner, Sid. She is awesome. Anyway, today I watched several rounds of dancing and discovered that many different emotions can be created from dancing. At one moment I thought, "There are no words to describe what that man and woman are depicting with their movements." In short, don't forget to dance. Dancing is pretty great. Visit  BYU Dancesport  for more chances to see great dancing and chances to see competitions in ...
