A Child's Prayer

Dear Reader, Heavenly Father answers prayers. I have seen it so many times and I still forget what that statement means. Today, I want to share five stories with you that illustrate how Heavenly Father is always listening. When I was young lad, I lost one of my favorite toys. At this point in my life I honestly have no idea what toy it was, but I loved it immensely. It was simple thing, but as I was tearing my room apart looking for it, my mom asked me if I had prayed to ask Heavenly Father for help. I was a stubborn child and didn't want to ask for help, so I kept searching before I finally gave in and knelt next to my bed. The prayer probably wasn't very long, but it was enough to let Heavenly Father show me His love. I kid you not, the toy was next to my knee when I opened my eyes. A similar thing happened to a young boy that I taught as a full-time missionary in Chile. His name was Matias and he loved to play ping pong. Actually, that was one of the reason my compa...

We Can Be Together Forever Someday

Dear Reader,  I did. A couple of weeks ago I popped the big question to the lovely, talented and lovable Lauren Busath. The day was not as eventful as most engagements, but I thought it was perfect for us. We are very excited to be getting sealed in the Bountiful Temple in August! In celebration of the recent events, here the story. However, we wanted to get both sides. Everything in bold is Lauren's writing. Everything else is me.  Now, Lauren and I have dated twice...once back in 2012-2013 for a few months before she left on a full-time mission and now. We went on our "first date" in February of this year and had such a great time. I felt as though we hadn't skipped a beat since the last time we had been out. So, come the beginning of May, I was head over heels for her already. We had already been to my sister's wedding together and we were doing pretty much everything together. Thus, the engagement was not a foreign concept.  After dating only three shor...

Gloria, In Excelsis Deo!

Dear Reader, Deck the halls with lots of students! Fa la la la la, la la la...way too many students. Here is your fun fact for the day: the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University becomes one of the busiest places in Utah during December. Students at the University are studying for finals, meeting up with their groups for the final projects and getting those last minute tips from their tutors. They are all in the library. Today I could not find a spot to sit! There is no need to fear, faithful reader. The floor can be a great place to write, as long as there is a wifi connection that provides communication with you. I realized that this Blog was visited for the 8000th time this week. What a great Christmas present! Thanks to my mom for the 7999 visits! Thank you, dear reader, for the 8000th. I figured that between this milestone and the Christmas season, today is a good day to share my view on Christmas and the reason for the season. So go ahead students, take a break fr...

Hello, Neighbor!

Dear Reader, Today I walked past a couple people and acknowledged them because I knew them. Luckily for me I also remembered their names, but not everyone is blessed with my mother's gift of remembering everyone she has ever met. She seriously has this gift with people. Here's an example to illustrate:  Imagine you meet my mom and talk to her for 5 minutes. Due to her nature, the conversation will probably focus on family and emotional state, but imagine talking with her about anything. She will give you a hug before you part ways. She does that. No matter who you are. Take note of the shirt you are wearing when you talk to her, too.  Now, imagine yourself walking down the street or into a store 20 years from now. You haven't seen my mom during those 20 years. My mom, if she sees you, will not only recognize you and remember your name, but she will remember what shirt you were wearing the first time you met. Not only that, she will somehow remember to congra...

We Are Family

Dear Reader, Today marks a very important celebration for everyone on earth. Twenty years ago today, President Gordon B. Hinckley of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stood in a General Relief Society meeting and read aloud " The Family: A Proclamation to the World. " This document has so much substance and inspiration. In honor of this anniversary and also of the family, I wanted to share with you what I know about "The Family: A Proclamation to the World." Firstly, the title itself is very direct and has several underlying messages. Since the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there have been 4 official declarations or proclamations made by apostles and prophets. While normally declarations such these are directed at the members of the church for their improvement. However, "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" is exactly that; it is a proclamation to the world . The truth contained in this document i...

Marry Me

Dear Reader, Temples are amazing. They are the only place where a man and a woman can be sealed together forever by the power of the priesthood. I was able to witness this firsthand on Saturday when my roommate and his wife knelt across the alter in the Timpanogos Temple as they were sealed for eternity. There was so much happiness in that sealing room during the ceremony. As the couple walked in, there was a huge smile on both their faces. Jacob (My roommate) and I have known each other for a long time. I was actually on his first date with McKay (his wife). Don't worry; it was a double date. That night as we were talking about dating and what we liked about the date that day I told him, "I like you two. There is a good feeling about her." Sure enough, just over 5 months later they are now sealed for all eternity through and by the power of the priesthood. Of course we also enjoyed their reception later that night, but I was enjoying the fact that they are perf...

Save the Last Dance for Me

Dear Reader, Dating. Dancing. Dating a dancer. Dancing on a date. Dancing with a dancer on a date in the dance hall that is meant for dating. Ok, that's the last one. Right now I am attending a beginning social dance class and the comparisons between dancing and dating seem never-ending! That is what I want to share with you today: what things I have learned in dancing that can be applied to dating/relationships/marriage. Obviously Dale is not an expert in either of these areas, but hopefully you can get a couple of laughs. Guys should take the lead . It's not illegal for a girl to lead, it just is not very complimenting to the man. In dating, it seems to work out better when the guy is assertive and works hard to take care of the girl. Guys should not try anything the girl doesn't want to do/isn't ready for. In dancing, a really good leader can take a girl through lots of dance steps she doesn't know or is not prepared for. Likewise, a gentleman always ta...

Her Eyes Make the Stars Look like They're Not Shining

Dear Reader, I have been hiding something from you. It is a terrible thing for me to do considering that the thirteenth article of faith from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints states that  "if there is anything virtuous, lovely or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." What I have been keeping from you, loyal reader, is someone who fits all of the above categories. This lovely lady has been one of the biggest occupants of my time lately. Why? Because she is worth the time. Meet McKenzie. She is brilliant, beautiful and very athletic. We have been spending a lot of time together. I may like her...just a little bit. We have been dating for almost a month and the time is well spent. Our conversations are enlightening for both of us and almost always filled with laughter, too (mostly her laughing at how bad my dad jokes are). She is studying Statistics here at Brigham Young University, which she enjoys a lot. She tries to teach me a litt...

How do I know He Loves Me?

Dear Reader, Disney's Enchanted film has a good amount of good music, including the song that contains today's post title, "How Does She Know?' The majority of this movie is spent on the development of a love story between a single father and a fairy-tale princess who is lost in the real world. The princess, of course, knows everything there is to know about showing someone how you love them. What I want to share with you is a little about the 5 Love Languages (A book by Gary D. Chapman ) and how it corresponds with this song and our Heavenly Father. Does that not make sense? Don't worry, it will. First I'll tell you about the different lines of the song that explain each love language. If you have not seen this movie, watch this clip to hear the song and marvel at the musical brilliance of the composer. 1. "Does he take you out dancing just he can hold you close?"  This is a perfect example of the physical touch love language. Having some...
