Do What All Good Scientists Do: Experiment

Dear Reader,  Courtesy of alphacoders.com Anger, fear, sadness and joy are the core of human emotion. You may have seen one of Disney's animated films entitled "Inside Out," which tells a unique story of how these emotions affect a young girl going experiencing a change of home, school and friends as her family moves across country. They play a pivotal role in how we act as human beings and as children of a Heavenly Father.  I recently went to an event where we participated in several activities to explore how important emotions are. One of the exercises was exploring how the core emotions are essential and helpful, but can also lead us to feel other emotions that are not essential nor helpful.  For example, fear is a core emotion because it can keep us safe from danger. Anxiety, although related to fear and similar in nature, is not the same. Anxiety weighs us down and keeps us from doing things that would be good for us or experiences that help us feel joy....

Remember Pearl Harbor

Dear Reader, Yes, there is a song about Pearl Harbor called "Remember Pearl Harbor." You can listen to it on Youtube here . It is a song written in 1942. (Photo Credit: Timeanddate.com ) I just wanted to take a short time today and remind every US citizen a little bit about our history. Today, December 7th, marks the 73rd anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii. On *December 7th, 1941, the Empire of Japan carried out a surprise attack on the United States at Pearl Harbor, killing more than 2400 sailors, pilots, nurses and citizens. A thousand more were wounded. Of the 16 Naval vessels in the Harbor, all were either seriously damaged or sunk. Why would I want to remember such a terrible day and a great loss of life? As I have mentioned before, my Grandpa served in the military during World War II. I remember Pearl Harbor not because of how many American lives were lost, but because of how the Citizens of the United States responded as a country. P...

My Time of Day!

Dear Reader, If you don't recognize that song title, it is from Guys and Dolls , the Musical. Sky, the protagonist, sings it to his girl as they arrive in New York City in the "wee small hours of the morning" (Bonus points to whoever can guess that reference). Sky talks about how much he loves the morning hours because of the beautiful sights and the stillness of the city. With that in mind, take a gander at this: Toledo Welcome to Toledo at 7 AM! It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Now, this picture is brought to you via our awesome trip that started at 4:30 AM. Yes, that is right. We got up at 4, left for the train that left at 5:10 to Madrid. From there we took the Metro to the Bus station. For further emphasis, I love Alcalá de Henares and Madrid at those early morning hours as well. Taking a bus at 6:30, we arrived in Toledo and found this view on our way to our destination. Someday I will show it to you in person. The driveway(?) w...
