Faith is like a little seed

Dear  Reader, It has been quite awhile since we have hit on something significant on this blog. It has been a busy time with school starting and getting back into the swing of things after a summer filled with nothing but work and hanging out with friends. However, I feel the need to discuss something that has been lacking in my life lately. Most of the following points might be repetitive to some of you, having grown up in highly religious families/communities. In other words, this post is mostly for me. Faith is like a little seed; if planted, it will grow. Ok, so the first question that everyone always asks when introducing Faith is usually, "What is Faith?" followed usually by some definition about a hope of things not seen but are true. I'll be honest, Faith is not something I can explain very well. People always talk about knowing that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true and that they have so much Faith in God and his plan. I have a hard time...

5 Long Years

Dear Reader, Yesterday I officially declared my major. Ever since starting school I had been listed as a Pre-Music Major, but now my transcripts and official records have Computer Science down on file. I took long enough, right? Well, it's been a grand time figuring out how long it will take to graduate. Looking the plan I made using the BYU MyMap system, I can graduate as early as 2016. That would only be 6 years since I started. Go figure. Graduation will possibly postponed until spring of 2017, but we will see how things go. The most appropriate song to go along with this happy event is a spoof on the song "1000 Miles." The original song has little or no significance to me, but the spoof done by an Acappella group has pretty funny lyrics that are not far off from how planning a college graduation are. Here is a video with the lyrics posted out so you can read them. It goes through and explains very well how you can plan do something and how something simple ca...

Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies!

Dear Reader, Yes, today is September 11th. There are many who write about where they were when the terrorist attack came to New York and other locations on the east coast. They write about not forgetting, being proud to be an American, etc. Most of them are good people who are just commemorating a sacred day in United States history and have good messages to portray. Mine is not the same message. A friend of mine shared a video with me a couple days ago that I would like to share with you. It is a clip of show called "What would you do?" that airs on ABC periodically. They take actors who portray difficult situations, intending to film the real reactions of people near by. Their acts range anywhere from a football coach borderline abusing a player while practicing at a park to refusing to bake a cake for a lesbian couple. This particular video has an actor playing a Muslim server at a Deli with another actor bothering him about his religion and ethnicity. What would yo...

Come Sail Away With Me

Dear Reader, Man, I am definitely slacking in the blogging area these past couple of weeks. This week it is due to NSO (New Student Orientation) at BYU. It is an interesting thing, because I got an email about it back in March or April and my first thought was, "Yeah, I can totally do that!" Come this past week when I got an email reminding me about it, I thought, "Man, ain't nobody got time for that." However, time was made for it and we had a great time showing around several of the freshman so they could find their classes and whatnot. A saddening experience occurred, too. I kind of hit it off with one of the peer mentors at NSO and was hoping to ask her out sometime next week. On Thursday we were getting to know each other a little bit and there seemed to be a good connection. Come Friday night, I was sitting at one of the activities for NSO when she walks in, sees me and walks right over to sit next to me...with another guy. Who then proceeded to take h...

Empty Chairs at Empty Tables

Dear Reader, I woke up this morning to an empty apartment. This was very odd to me considering that when I went to bed at midnight there were 8-10 people there, most of whom were planning to spend the night. About 6 people slept in our apartment and they were all gone when I woke up this morning. It was pretty legit. It was a good chance to sit and think about how great our Spring/Summer terms have been! Three of our roommates have been gone for a week or more now. Spencer got married at the beginning of August. Nick and Cameron moved out this past week and have sort of been replaced by other people who will be moving down to the first floor with us. We have had good parties, late-night discussions about manly things and everything in between. I love my roommates and it is a great time whenever we get together. Now we have empty chairs at an empty table before we move out tomorrow.

It's not Easy (Superman)

Dear Reader, I can't stand to fly, I'm not that naive I'm just out to find the better part of me I wish that I could cry Fall upon my knees Find a way to lie About a home I'll never see Five for Fighting wrote this song about how being a man. You can still be a superhero and it is still hard to do the things we normally do in life. Nobody's perfect. No one can be completely calm all the time; sometimes you will explode or break down. This week has been hard. I'm still trying to put my finger on the exact problem that provokes my irritability and annoyance this week. I don't like feeling like that. As explained in the song's lyrics, I wish that I could cry because that would help me get these feelings out my system. The climax of these negative feelings came while talking with two of my best friends. They were asking me some questions out of nowhere which I didn't quite understand. Trying to be a nice person and appease them because I lo...

It's Possible

Dear Reader, In Seussical the Musical, there is a small boy who sings the song "It's Possible" when he is in the bathtub and he imagines all kinds of seemingly impossible things. They told him it couldn't be done. Yet he did it. Many times in life we are told that something is impossible. Friends, family and roommates have all told me that certain things are impossible. Many times the situation in question just isn't worth testing to see if it's possible, thus it is never proven whether it is possible or not. Sometimes it is worth the effort. Even if they only thing you get out of it is the satisfaction that knowing it's possible. My coworker challenged me to something like that this week. She said it couldn't be done. Don't even try, she said. Well, guess what. I did it. It's possible. :) Don't ever think something is impossible. Just like Jo-Jo from Seussical, we can also know that something is possible. :)
