There can be miracles when you believe

Dear Readers,

Last night was a wonderful night! Beyond belief! I went out with the Missionaries in our area and our evening went something like this:

First we stopped off at the house of a Bishop in their area to see if they could meet with him. He wasn't home, but hopefully they'll catch up with him today after work.

After that we proceeded over to the house of a woman who was recently baptized and who's teenage daughter is getting baptized soon. We had a great time talking about the differences between wards in Utah and other places while enjoying pizza and a wonderful little pumpkin spice drink that was delicious.

One of the best parts of the night came at the next house where Ricardo and Sandy lived. They're a Catholic couple, but the most humble people you will ever meet. The father said that he's looking about religion mainly because he wants to follow Christ the best he can and he's talking to the missionaries to try and understand the dominant religion around his neighborhood because they want to live here for awhile. He may or may not get baptized, but the experience of talking with him was amazing. Ricardo asks the best questions and trys his very best to understand the LDS viewpoint of it as well as the missionaries personal way of understanding it. The missionaries are going back to talk with him next week about why people go to war when it seems as though Jesus never would. I love Ricardo and his family. :)

After visiting this family, we went over to the home of the Relief Society President in the ward, who just happens to be President Hinckley's daughter. She gladly accepted the task of finding a good fellowshipper for Ricardo and said she would think of some names for the missionaries to talk to.

Our last visit was short but well worth it. Jon has been asking when he should be baptized and the Missionaries challenged him to ask Heavenly Father whether the date should be this Saturday instead of the new year as he had been feeling. We got there and he explained that his family is coming into town next weekend, so that would be a perfect time to be baptized. The missionaries were ecstatic and couldn't stop celebrating. We talked with Jon and his wife for awhile before leaving him with what he needed to get ready for Baptism.

It was a fantastic night in which the spirit filled the air. It was the kind of night that Missionaries and Church members dream of. So much to learn and so much to do!

Am I Proud to Be an American?

This weekend is the 4th of July, or Independence Day in the United States of America. One of my favorite songs during this time of celebrating the country is "God Bless the USA." The words paint a detailed picture of the beauty of the United States, both in a physical and emotional aspect. Our country is often depicted in a majestic manner such as this, making it seem like the greatest in the world and we often hear those bold words, "I'm proud to be an American."  With all of the issues that have been cropping up over the past couple of years such as impeachment, systemic racism, foreign intervention, and most significantly the COVID-19 pandemic, I have reflected deeply about what we celebrate with the 4th of July. These issues are just a few of the many that have made me wonder about the country we praise so proudly.  Am I really proud to be an American?  Thomas Jefferson wrote the candid words of the Declaration of Independence, which were th...

I like Happiness

Dear Readers, Happiness is great, don't you agree? Just the other night, it was a very frustrating and confusing night out with the Ensemble yet again, but I came back to my friend's house to hang out and just decided that being happy was more important than giving in to my gossiping desires. The rest of the night was just brilliant after I decided that. This morning was another example: I woke up late and was again frustrated. What did I do? I went to school and decided to be happy. The rest of the day went great! Be Happy! :D

Book of Mormon Stories

Dear Reader, Today I simply want to share a story that has strengthened my testimony of the Book of Mormon over the years. Professor Felix Mynhardt was fluent in many languages, including English, Afrikaans, Hebrew and Egyptian, as well as many others. He was employed as a language professor when he had been praying that the Lord would give him some divinely important task that would justify his having this gift of language from God. In 1970 he visited with a group of Mormon leaders, who sought to commission him to translate the Book of Mormon from English into Afrikaans. He said that he knew of the Book of Mormon from his religions studies, and his initial reaction was that he did not want to be involved in translating it. However, that evening, as he prayed upon his knees, as was his habit, he said the Spirit of the Lord convinced him. The message was something on the order of, "You asked me for a great, divinely inspired task of translation, I sent it to you in the form o...
