Come listen to a prophet's voice

Hey Yall,
So there isn't a whole lot to write about this week. We did a lot, don't worry, but I don't know what to write about it. I guess we'll start with the intercambio we had with the zone leaders.
I spent the day in LA with Elder Elder. That sentence says a lot. Elder Austin Elder is from Nibley, Utah and thinks he knows the Lundstroms in Paradise, but he's not sure. Anyway, I came to work with him in the sector of San Martin on Tuesday while Elder Filamita, the other zone Leader, went to Santa Barbara with Elder Bustos. We had quite a few interesting experiences.
First off, we went to visit a member family for lunch, who's son/brother is currently serving a mission in Bolivia. While serving, he and his companion were interviewed for some news program about the church. They basically gave the lessons of Preach My Gospel as an answer to the questions that came up which is good. We watched the interview while we ate (we had a lot of food) and gave the sister a blessing afterward.
After lunch, we went to visit a Beautiful Black Man. :) His name is Avaly and he speaks French and Spanish, but no English. Sad day. It was a really awkward but funny visit. We couldn't tell if he was drunk or not, but he was awfully weird. We came and he said, "you have ten minutes." We started explaining the Book of Mormon by the pool because apparently his family is very rich. It was a nice pool. When we said the book was a record of the inhabitants of the Americas, he started going off about not having a book from Africa concerning Jesus Christ. We explained that there could be a book from Africa, we just don't know about it. He totally accepted all we had to say, but probably won't get baptized until a book concerning Africa is found. Odd visit, really. The way he read the scriptures was all weird.
One thing that was bothering all of us all week is the Change of the hour. As of right now, there is a difference of 3 hours between Utah and Chile. As of May, it will move to 2 hours. Chile has daylight savings time, but the government seems to change it as they please. Anyway, so we'll see what happens. It just caused problems for us with conference. Luckily, us missionaries got to see all the sessions and the members of our branch went to the Sunday morning session. All 14 members in the bus. Well, 12. We were the other 2.
Conference was amazing, don't worry. We enjoyed it quite thoroughly. That which we understood...ha ha. No, us gringos watched it in English in other room. Of our zone, 8 of the 12 missionaries are North American, so we all packed into a small room off to the side to watch General Conference in English. I have to say, the spirit comes into a room when apostles start talking. I loved what Elder Perry had to say about the sabbath day. He probably didn't say this about the sabbath, but I had the distinct thought that the Sabbath is a day of REST, not SLEEP. So, getting up early is a good thing to do. I love reading early in the morning. It's a hobby.
The Priesthood session was power packed as well. I am always so excited to go to Priesthood because of the First Presidency. President Monson gave us all a great call to become worthy husbands. I love how he said, "Marriage is not about Choosing the right person as much as it´s about BEING the right person." He and others seemed to be speaking straight to us missionaries and using our time wisely. Elder Cook made helped me develop a better appreciation for others, especially women. conference was amazing.
A big shout out to my Friend, Spencer Williams, who had a great solo shot on camera in the priesthood session. Great singing! I always love the music.
As for the work...well, us being in Santa Barbara made it hard to do on the weekend. We left at 11 to be in LA for Conference at 1 on Saturday and had to stay over at the zone leader's house because priesthood ended at 11 PM. We then traveled back to Santa Barbara at 7:30 Sunday morning to pick up an investigator who, it turned out, became busy while we were gone and couldn't come. So, we came back to LA with the Branch and stayed until 7, when the afternoon session ended on Sunday. We then got back at nine and couldn't do anything on Sunday night. We're sad that we pretty much lost two days, but it was worth it for all the counsel we received.
That's it for this week. Write down the things you learned from conference and put them into things that you need to do to "be".

You make me dance like a fool, forget how to breath, shine like gold...

Dear Readers, Ok, so I can't fit the entire title into the title box. It's a good song, go look it up: "You make me smile." The title can apply to anyone, I've found. The rest of the lyrics would probably refer to a best friend or a significant other, but anyone can make you smile. They all have the own way of doing it. Some are just funny all the time and you can't help smiling when you're around that person. I know some who take care of people so well that you just smile when they're doing something for another. Others you can talk to about your problems and no matter what they say, it seems to make sense and you feel better...thus a smile. Ok, a smile doesn't always come in that case, but people usually smile after that. Anyone can have a blonde moment and make everyone smile because of it. I'm glad I've got friends who can do all of these: have blonde moments, take care of others or have an episode of hyperactivity that you can't he...

Am I Proud to Be an American?

This weekend is the 4th of July, or Independence Day in the United States of America. One of my favorite songs during this time of celebrating the country is "God Bless the USA." The words paint a detailed picture of the beauty of the United States, both in a physical and emotional aspect. Our country is often depicted in a majestic manner such as this, making it seem like the greatest in the world and we often hear those bold words, "I'm proud to be an American."  With all of the issues that have been cropping up over the past couple of years such as impeachment, systemic racism, foreign intervention, and most significantly the COVID-19 pandemic, I have reflected deeply about what we celebrate with the 4th of July. These issues are just a few of the many that have made me wonder about the country we praise so proudly.  Am I really proud to be an American?  Thomas Jefferson wrote the candid words of the Declaration of Independence, which were th...

That's What Makes the World Go 'Round!

Dear Reader, Bonus points go to whoever can name what movie today's song title comes from. Comment below to submit your answers. Today I wanted to give you an update on the great " ALS Ice Bucket Challenge " that is taking the internet by storm. What started as a small campaign to raise awareness and funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) has grown and caused thousands of people to dump ice or ice water over their heads. That is how it works: one person nominates another to the challenge. That nominated person then has 24 hours to either donate $100 to the ALS foundation or have a bucket of ice dumped over their head. I would like to think most people are both accepting the ice bucket challenge and donating to charity. I won't judge, though. With all of this publicity that the ALS campaign has received, it made me think of other fads that people participated in during the 1920s and 1930s. Did you know that people regularly participated...
