Hey Y'all,

We've had quite the week as exciting stories go. Unfortunately, very little actual work has gotten done. But that's OK. When I say work, I mean actually teaching people. But we've been working in other ways.

Just this morning we've done about a month's worth of physical service for a missionary (As you know we should being giving service every time we have the chance). We went to Concepcion to get Elder Brann's carnet (license) early this morning (I slept on the bus...ugh...) and we were on our way to the Mission office when a girl stopped us in the street. She and her cousin were helping a dog and asked if we could help her carry the dog somewhere in Concepcion. We decided to help her and her cousin out. Apparently this girl goes around helping abused or abandoned animals in between studying/going to school and working as a veterinarian. She is a little fireball. She spoke pretty good English and didn't believe me when I told her I understood what she was saying in Spanish. So, she spoke to us in English the whole time while we were carrying this dog to a vet. She had an address that she got wrong, so we ended up at the wrong end of Concepcion and had to walk about 10 extra blocks. Anyway, this girl kept talking about how nobody believes in what she's doing or what she can do as a person. It was really quite inspiring to hear her talk about saving the world. She also said she used to be a member of the church, however Elder Brann and I both doubt that. In the end, it felt good to do a little unplanned service for some random person on the other side of the planet.

One thing that Elder Brann and I both got a kick out of was one little girl who passed us in the street. We were walking to somebody's house and we saw her just skipping down the road. Imagine an 11 or 12-year-old girl just skipping happily down the road. It made our day and we merrily greeted her as she passed. It was quite satisfying the smooth, "hola" we got in return. Not like a happy crazy greeting, but like a "the world is a wonderful place therefore I'm skipping without any cares about what others think about me" greeting. It just made our whole day that day. :)

The cambios are also about this week and we now have a new person in the house. Elder Gonzalez left to go to Temuco and his companion is now working with Elder Leiva. Elder Leiva, who is our District leader for just us in the house, is a great Chilean from Santiago. He is a good missionary and just inspires us to do better every week. It's definitely good to have him in the house.

Another exciting thing this week: Roger was ordained a Priest! Yay! He received the Priesthood and is now able to pass, bless and prepare the sacrament, along with working in the ward as a worthy priesthood holder. :) We´re very excited to have him with the power of God as his command as long as he remains worthy. :)

That´s about it this week. Keep reading the Book of Mormon at least 10 minutes a day! Chao!

Am I Proud to Be an American?

This weekend is the 4th of July, or Independence Day in the United States of America. One of my favorite songs during this time of celebrating the country is "God Bless the USA." The words paint a detailed picture of the beauty of the United States, both in a physical and emotional aspect. Our country is often depicted in a majestic manner such as this, making it seem like the greatest in the world and we often hear those bold words, "I'm proud to be an American."  With all of the issues that have been cropping up over the past couple of years such as impeachment, systemic racism, foreign intervention, and most significantly the COVID-19 pandemic, I have reflected deeply about what we celebrate with the 4th of July. These issues are just a few of the many that have made me wonder about the country we praise so proudly.  Am I really proud to be an American?  Thomas Jefferson wrote the candid words of the Declaration of Independence, which were th...

I like Happiness

Dear Readers, Happiness is great, don't you agree? Just the other night, it was a very frustrating and confusing night out with the Ensemble yet again, but I came back to my friend's house to hang out and just decided that being happy was more important than giving in to my gossiping desires. The rest of the night was just brilliant after I decided that. This morning was another example: I woke up late and was again frustrated. What did I do? I went to school and decided to be happy. The rest of the day went great! Be Happy! :D

Book of Mormon Stories

Dear Reader, Today I simply want to share a story that has strengthened my testimony of the Book of Mormon over the years. Professor Felix Mynhardt was fluent in many languages, including English, Afrikaans, Hebrew and Egyptian, as well as many others. He was employed as a language professor when he had been praying that the Lord would give him some divinely important task that would justify his having this gift of language from God. In 1970 he visited with a group of Mormon leaders, who sought to commission him to translate the Book of Mormon from English into Afrikaans. He said that he knew of the Book of Mormon from his religions studies, and his initial reaction was that he did not want to be involved in translating it. However, that evening, as he prayed upon his knees, as was his habit, he said the Spirit of the Lord convinced him. The message was something on the order of, "You asked me for a great, divinely inspired task of translation, I sent it to you in the form o...
