I'm still Alive

Dear Reader,

This week has been one of ups and downs. However, it's going to end on high note because there are a few songs that are going to be stuck in my head for the next few months. One of those is the title of today's post, "I'm still Alive." Why on earth would that be a song that Dale would listen to over and over again to get it stuck in his head? Well, it so happens that it's one of the songs that "The 7 Deadly Sins" are going to be singing. That is the name of an a cappella group I just became part of here at BYU. I'll explain a little more.

On Tuesday night, the BYU a cappella group had auditions for each of the several groups here. I heard about it on Monday and decided to run over after my Doctrine and Covenants class. I was unusually confident that night and I sang a rendition of "Save the Last Dance for Me" by Michael Buble. After showing a little beat-boxing afterward, they said they would let us know how it went on Friday or Saturday(Today or tomorrow). No later than 2 PM on Wednesday I got an email from the director of "The 7 Deadly Sins" telling me that I made the group and that we're having our first rehearsal this weekend.

Now, not much is known about what will happen with this group. I have looked up everything I can about them. Apparently it's a relatively new group, having been formed last January. There are obviously 7 members who sing all sorts of different songs, normally from Halloween or gamer themes. A little nerdy, but that's OK. Their latest song was an arrangement of "The Zombie song" by Stephanie Mabey. We'll see how things turn out when we all get together on Saturday Afternoon. :)

Here's a little taste of something we're doing. ;)

Am I Proud to Be an American?

This weekend is the 4th of July, or Independence Day in the United States of America. One of my favorite songs during this time of celebrating the country is "God Bless the USA." The words paint a detailed picture of the beauty of the United States, both in a physical and emotional aspect. Our country is often depicted in a majestic manner such as this, making it seem like the greatest in the world and we often hear those bold words, "I'm proud to be an American."  With all of the issues that have been cropping up over the past couple of years such as impeachment, systemic racism, foreign intervention, and most significantly the COVID-19 pandemic, I have reflected deeply about what we celebrate with the 4th of July. These issues are just a few of the many that have made me wonder about the country we praise so proudly.  Am I really proud to be an American?  Thomas Jefferson wrote the candid words of the Declaration of Independence, which were th...

You make me dance like a fool, forget how to breath, shine like gold...

Dear Readers, Ok, so I can't fit the entire title into the title box. It's a good song, go look it up: "You make me smile." The title can apply to anyone, I've found. The rest of the lyrics would probably refer to a best friend or a significant other, but anyone can make you smile. They all have the own way of doing it. Some are just funny all the time and you can't help smiling when you're around that person. I know some who take care of people so well that you just smile when they're doing something for another. Others you can talk to about your problems and no matter what they say, it seems to make sense and you feel better...thus a smile. Ok, a smile doesn't always come in that case, but people usually smile after that. Anyone can have a blonde moment and make everyone smile because of it. I'm glad I've got friends who can do all of these: have blonde moments, take care of others or have an episode of hyperactivity that you can't he...

I Don't Wanna Be Anything Other Than Me

Dear Reader,  I work online at one of my part-time jobs. Sometimes it is required of me to look up a person's credentials or accomplishments to better fill out a description of their time on the radio. This means I do Google searches quite frequently to find their websites, their social media profiles, etc. By no means am I a guru on the world wide web, but I have been around the internet a few times. Why does any of this matter to you, reader? It matters because I have found a few things that are essential to being safe online. As much as anyone hates to admit, the persona built on the web greatly affects the actual person outside of technology. It matters because we need to review the tips on how to remain safe online regularly.  Here is a quick example of how important it is to monitor what you put online. If you put "Dale Lundstrom" into a Google search, there are 743 results as of today. A good number of those have nothing to do with me, it's true. Howe...
