Dear Reader,
Some songs are written and people wonder how/why the song was written. For example, yesterday I was listening to "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars. He sings, "Today I don't feel like doing anything...nothing at all." I see no point in this song. To me it provokes all excuses to be a slothful member of society. This, like many other songs, seem to be pretty pointless. It is hard to relate with them.
Such was the case with "What do you want from me?" by Adam Lambert. I don't really like the song particularly, but I finally understand the feeling behind some of the lyrics. Mostly the words, "What do you want from me?" I can relate with those lyrics because of this week.
There are some things that I do during the week that have to be done according to the taste of several different people. What really gets my goat is when those people can't agree on what they want. Thus, when it comes time to actually perform the task, one of two things happen every time: I either end up standing there while they are argue about how to do it or I end up changing it back and forth while they argue about it. Either way, it is very stressful. Yesterday especially I really wanted to scream, "WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?"
Take a quick example from a random college student's life: Jake has a class in which his teacher teaches him that the Sun is the closest star to the earth. This is a true statement. The professor goes out of his way to emphasize that the sun is, in fact, the closest star to the earth. However, on the test, the question comes up asking which star is closest to the earth. The sun, obviously. WRONG! Alpha Centauri. What did the professor want from Jake? He wanted to emphasize that the sun was the closest star to the sun, but wanted to be politically correct on a standardized test. Jake got the wrong message. He didn't know what his professor wanted. Jake leads a sad life because he doesn't know his stars.
The point is, if you are going to ask someone something, it would be a good idea to know what you want from them and tell them. I don't know what you want. However, I'm most likely to help you with it if you let me know exactly what you want. What do you want from me?
