Dear Reader,
Do you remember a few years back when Susan Boyle did so well on Britain's Got Talent and become immensely famous? She became famous for the song that is the basis for today's post. She sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables. For those of you who don't know, the entire story of Les Miserables is kind of a downer. The most depressing part is the story of Fantine, the woman who sings "I Dreamed a Dream." She is a single mother who works to support her daughter. At the point where she regales the audience with "I Dreamed a Dream," she has fallen into prostitution and is at the end of her ropes financially, spiritually and emotionally. She reminisces about her days with her lover who left her and how she had a dream when life was good.
One of the lines in the song states, "there are dreams that cannot be and there are storms we cannot weather." In other words, she is at the point where there is no point to continue because she cannot achieve what she wanted to. She thinks that there is no way to improve her life.
I apologize if you are terribly offended, but I wholeheartedly disagree with this line in the song. I do not believe that there are dreams that cannot be or storms that cannot be weathered. I firmly believe that with great perseverance, a little ingenuity and a combination of other things, you can reach any dream. I don't believe you should ever give up on any dream. There may be times that you have to focus on other things and put your dream to the side, but after making certain changes and coming to certain realizations you can come back and put an entirely new perspective on the dream you want to achieve.
With that, I apologize to Fantine. She was in a very dire situation with very little or no help. However, there is a way she could have made her life better. I don't know how, but there was a way. Every dream can be and every storm can be weathered. You just have to make the decision and do everything you can think of and some things you couldn't think of yourself in order to achieve it.

"I dreamed a dream in time gone by when hope was high and life worth living [and when hope was low and life seemed miserable]...
I dreamed that love would never die. I dreamed that God would be forgiving. [He really is.]"
