Consider the Lilies

Dear Reader,


There is a song that I do not know much about entitled "Consider the Lilies." The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings it from time to time, like President Monson's 85th birthday celebration in 2012. Currently, the Mountain West Voices at Brigham Young University is preparing this song as part of their Barbershop Classic Concert. Today I want to highlight the lyrics of this song and how they are important for us right now. It also doesn't hurt my memorization...

 Consider the lilies of the field
How they grow, how they grow
Consider the birds in the sky
How they fly, how the fly

He clothes the lilies of the field
He feeds the birds in the sky
And he will feed those who trust him
And guide them with his eye

Consider the sheep of his fold
How they follow where he leads
Though their paths may wind across the mountain
He knows the meadows where he leads

Consider the sweet, tender children
Who must suffer on the earth
The pains of all of them he carried
From the day of his birth

He clothes the lilies of the field
He feeds the lambs in his fold
And he will feed those who trust him
And make their hearts as gold

 These words are very applicable to my friends and I this week as we have been struggling with different things such as work, school, etc. These short lines help us take a moment to remember that our Heavenly Father has helped the lilies grow in the field and has helped the birds fly across the world in the sky. If he can help and does help these small things in their lives, you can bet that he cares a lot about our lives. He helps us get that homework done as long as we do our part. He protects us during those games of basketball we play.

If you haven't taken a minute to consider the miracles all around you, take a look at a flower and think about its life. Smell it if you will.

Book of Mormon Stories

Dear Reader, Today I simply want to share a story that has strengthened my testimony of the Book of Mormon over the years. Professor Felix Mynhardt was fluent in many languages, including English, Afrikaans, Hebrew and Egyptian, as well as many others. He was employed as a language professor when he had been praying that the Lord would give him some divinely important task that would justify his having this gift of language from God. In 1970 he visited with a group of Mormon leaders, who sought to commission him to translate the Book of Mormon from English into Afrikaans. He said that he knew of the Book of Mormon from his religions studies, and his initial reaction was that he did not want to be involved in translating it. However, that evening, as he prayed upon his knees, as was his habit, he said the Spirit of the Lord convinced him. I've Been Watching You

Dear Reader, Our little boy has not even arrived yet and I am already feeling the pressure to a good example. All growing up, I was always told to never do anything that I wouldn't want my children to know about/do themselves. "Always be on your best behavior, your children will watch you." I will be honest, I have always agreed with that idea and I think it is a good way to live your life. However, I didn't feel the weight of that responsibility until my wife got pregnant. I feel like I am getting more and more pressure from myself to be a perfect example, even though this little boy hasn't even met me yet. That's why I am relating so much with this song right now. I know, this isn't too deep. I just wanted to share the song more than anything.
