Dear Reader,
Today's lyrics come from a song we learned in Elementary school during Halloween. Ever since I can remember, my feelings have been mixed about the holiday that supposedly has to do with death and darkness. However, this year my opinion of Halloween has become more solid. We will see this through a few pictures from the past couple of days.
First, on the right, we have Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I kid you not, she was reading a book as she was walking across campus. Granted, she was actually studying for a test, but it was very appropriate to see her walking around just like the movie "with her nose stuck in a book." (If memory serves correctly, the book was something about anatomy or physiology).
Who else did I also run into? Well, check for Belle again! This time she was dressed formally for work. Where does Belle work? In the library, of course! She was very accommodating and let me take a couple pictures with her.
What do these two people have in common (Other than dressing up as the same person)? They were having fun and making memories. While growing up, every year Halloween has been this odd holiday that I never cared for because it didn't make much sense. However, it was great to see how people had fun with every costume they put on or person they acted as.
On BYU Campus I saw Donald Duck, Captain America, countless wizards from Hogwarts, a quidditch match, several different versions of Disney Princesses (Ariel and Belle were my favorites), Pokemon, cows, Spiderman, Link and Yoda. Those are just the ones off the top of my head. There was even a guy walking around campus with a shirt that said 'life' and he was handing out lemons. Creative, huh?
As stated above, these people let loose and had fun. That is what Halloween has come to mean. It is a day that we can be someone else for a day and no one will judge you for you choose to be. Your alternate identity can be a princess, a superhero or even a person from history. If you want to be a banana, you can be a banana during Halloween! There is no need to worry about what people will think of you.
The other reason I like Halloween a little bit more is my family. It is a fun time when I get together with them. Thus, here are some pictures from our trick-or-treating adventures with them. Enjoy!
