Dear Reader,
Today I attended the Brigham Young University Campus Devotional at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah. The speaker was Brother Hilton of the Statistics department at BYU, who gave a great talk about trials and letting our light shine. The main idea I want to share about what he said stems from the scripture in Matthew 11:28-30.
The idea Brother Hilton shared that the reference to 'light' should be considered as a noun. Most of my life I have always thought of 'light' as an adjective, meaning that it is not heavy or burdening. In other words, I thought that scripture meant that taking the yoke of Christ upon us meant that life would be easier and less heavy. However, if we think of 'light' as an noun, the scripture has a totally different meaning. Basically it says, "...my burden is [to be an example or share my light].
It really hit me to think that taking on the yoke of Christ does not make our lives easier, rather it makes it better. We take on the challenge of being an example and shining light throughout the world.
So, I can't find a good recording of the song that today's title comes from, but you can enjoy this other version of the song that I found while perusing youtube. Let your light shine!

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
