Mother, I love you, Mother I do

What kids think about their Mothers Watch the video above. I came across it while perusing the internet this morning and I do believe it is something worth watching because we don't see enough of it in our everyday lives.  I just wanted to take the post today and tell you all about my wonderful mother. She is the most kind-hearted person you will ever meet (Believe me, you will meet her sometime, whether you intend to or not). She has several great gifts, my favorite of which is her memory. Sometimes she can't remember what she did the day before, but she always remembers people. I dare you to have a 5-minute conversation with my mother. This is what will happen: 20 years from now, she will see you as she is driving/walking/meandering down the street. Not only will she recognize you by your face, but she will remember your name, everything you talked about in those 5 minutes from 20 years ago and the shirt you were wearing that day. Not to mention, she will proba

The Reason

Dear Reader, Today was an awesome experience! I had the opportunity to attend the temple with my roommate and my best friend, just a week before she heads on a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We had the opportunity to be part of small group while we were there and it was a great stress-relief from everything going on this week. While at the temple today, a question popped into my head that I feel should be answered here on the blog. However, it was just the question that popped into my head, so my response to it may or may not make much sense. We will go over it together and hopefully we will be able to understand each other. What is the difference between fear, love and duty? Let me explain this question. People do a lot of different things in life and above are listed three of the main reasons why they do them. I'll give an example: why do people get baptized after the manner that Jesus Christ got baptized? These are not the only

The Lord is My Light

Dear Reader, There is the story told in many Christian denominations about a young man in college. This man took a course with a professor who challenged their beliefs about God. He posed the question, "Did God create Evil?" to which many students replied negatively. The professor debated the topic, saying, God created everything, right? That means he created evil." One student braved to ask several questions, my favorite of which is this: "Sir, does darkness exist?" The professor replied, "Of course it does." "You're wrong sir. Darkness is merely a term used to describe the absence of light." That phrase caught my attention today while listening to our Bishop in Sacrament meeting today. It hit me like a ton of bricks. How many times do we talk about light in a spiritual sense? I can't begin to count how many scriptures, books and articles describing the 'light' that helps people in their lives. Looking at the flip

76 Trombones Led the Big Parade!

Dear Reader, Well, they didn't lead the parade, but the trombones did lead the marching band in the BYU Homecoming Parade on Saturday! It was quite enjoyable and I just wanted to share some pictures with you. They include the Ballroom Dance Company, the marching band and some pretty awesome cars.

Each Life that touches ours for good

Dear Reader, That song is very precious to me. While I was serving as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, my best friend sent me the sheet music for that hymn, along with a letter expressing a change of heart she had. I don't know how I ended up doing what I ended up doing tonight. Barely having arrived at home, I got on the internet to see if DearElder.com was working. It was frustrating to see that DearElder wasn't working...again. This lead me to go searching for a phone number to call, either this evening or tomorrow. I put in "Dear Elder" into Google, expecting to get wikipedia or something else to that effect, Instead, I came across this video. It is a great example of the power that the Gospel has to change someone's life for the better.

Breathe

Dear Reader, Have you ever heard people talk about drowning in classes or work or whatever else? I'm beginning to understand what they mean by drowning and not being able to breathe with all the work they have to do. Hence, the reason we haven't been able to communicate on this blog much. It's been awhile since I've been able to breathe, too. Breathe. Breathe. Sometimes we forget to breathe. Many times in life we are counseled to "stop and smell the roses." That is such a good piece of advice. It is not a literal action (although, it can be), but it is a reminder to slow down sometimes and be grateful or to take a look at where we really are instead of thinking about how much we have to rush. The prophets have given us this counsel for years! I am excited to be able to hear their words this weekend. Breathe. Take the time to analyze your life this weekend while being immersed in the Spirit at the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of
