Hey Yall! This week has been a doozy. We´ve had some success, but transfers are happening today and tomorrow. Elder Kamalu left to go be a zone leader in the south and one of the others in our ward did the same, so I´m companion to Elder Gomez for yesterday and today until Elders Garcia and Baltran arrive from where ever they are. Garcia is going to be my companion in Millahue, so we´ve got to get going on our work. The week has just been hectic with baptisms from the other elders in our ward and calls to get baptismal interviews done. Not only that, one of investigators is back and we just found out he´s moving this week. Fome (sorry, a word we use here). Also, the saddest news we received this week is that Pamela´s dad died. she got a call during church yesterday and then left early. We don't know when she´s coming back. In our days together, Elder Gomez and I have been having little troubles here and there while shopping and whatnot because he only has one cambio more tha

Nine to Five

This week has been kind of slow, but we did have tons of people come to church yesterday! We had Cecilia, Marcelo, Pamela, Fernando, Elena, Monica and Rosa all in Sacrament. Even better, we have an appointment with Rosa on Thursday, one with Pamela on Wednesday and another with Cecilia and Marcelo later this week. Rosa is so close to baptism, but she´s having little doubts here and there. She was on vacation this week, so we didn´t meet with her as usual. Actually a lot of our investigators we´re not meeting with just because they´re in santiago or another part of the country for the summer. Yeah, it´s been really hot here. Yesterday it was probably upwards of 35 degrees. Celcius (95 F). No, I´m not kidding. The other elders of our ward had a baptism yesterday of a husband of someone in the ward. There is one mujer that we´ve committed to baptism, but she lives with her mom in the far north of chile. They leave for home next week. Elder Kamalu and I are doing well, though. We p

A Whole New World

I´m starting to understand almost everything the members say now. When they start talking about where their families live I´m totally lost because I don´t know any of these places in Chile. But when talking about the gospel, I can actually have a good conversation. As long as they´re not talking about the battle of Armeggedon or whatnot. My brother Bryce asked about pets in Chile. Nobody really has weird pets. However, I did see a kid the other day with a parrot. Mostly cats and dogs, though. Everybody has dogs. It´s their alarm system for their house. We talked with a guy this week whose dog was attacking us basically. It was really funny. We stood outside the gate and called in as usual when a black guy leaned out the window and said, ´´no hablo espaƱol´´ to which we replied, ´´habla ingles?´´ He then came and talked to us because we´re American. He´s from France and England and travels for his work. It was really funny to listen to another foreign person talk about the same things t

Still, Still, Still

We didn´t feel last week's earthquake. We got home and we were trying to make phone calls, but the service was out. We thought it was weird, but we went over the area book instead. When we went out about an hour later, we got a call from the zone leaders asking, ´´are you OK?´´ and we were like, ´´yeah, why?´´. We didn´t feel the Earthquake at all. This week we were trying to work with members on inviting their friends to church and one actually did. Our prayers were answered! The bishop´s wife invited one of her coworkers to church last Sunday and she came and even stayed after for the baptism that the other elders had. Actually, there were three baptisms on Sunday. One for the daughter of a member and two investigators from Labranza (the other half of our ward that´s about 20 minutes away by micro). We did a lot of door knocking this week, but it paid off because we found Fernando! Fernando is the friend of one member in the ward who has been looking around at different churches

Shake, Rattle, and Roll

We are working hard here and this week will be the first real week of work. The first week was full of conferences, this last week was Christmas and New Year´s Day (I think I heard gunshots around our neighborhood in Millahue) and so this week we´re working on getting into a good schedule. But even today is weird because it´s not a Preparation day but we are doing all the things we usually do but just working more. We had Preparation day on New Year´s Day because there is nobody...I mean NOBODY around on New Year´s Day. They stay up until all hours of the night and sleep in later than they normally do anyway. We spent most of New Year´s day with a family in the ward, but this ward is strange. The chapel is on the very edge of the ward and the ward has two parts, Millahue and Labranza. There are two elders working in Labranza, which is about 15-20 minutes away by Micro. Anyway, we ate lunch with them and played games with the other elders. We met up with Luis (an investigator) while
