Love Story (Romeo & Juliet)

Dear Reader,

This weekend was a fun-filled and fast weekend. On Saturday my parents had left me a car, so I was able to drive to work! That made life easier. After work I started the weekend with a drive to Lake Point, Utah. Following a reception, the weekend kept going with a movie night with one of my besties, a nice trip to Provo with my mom, a visit to a memorial, church planning adventures/disasters, dinner with some good friends, tunnel singing, all topped off with a great game of Dominion!

First things first, I'm so happy for my buddy Dallin who was married for all time and eternity on Saturday! It was great to see him and his new wife on Saturday, along with all of his family. We are so proud of you, Bro!

Now, the title for today's post comes from the movie my friend and I watched after the reception. "Letters to Juliet" is the name of the film. How was it? Well, I have mixed feelings about the story. Watching it at the Kitchen household was great. I love seeing all of their family. :) As far as the movie goes, I will let you all form an opinion of your own. I feel it is the tiniest bit too predictable and the final scene is really cheesy. Lucky for me, I like cheese. The song for today's title is played near the end of the movie when the main girl has a great realization moment. Go see it. You might like it.

Sunday was a great adventure! It has been a long time since the last Sunday that was so filled with things to do. First thing in the morning was by far the highlight of the day. A friend and I decided about a week ago to go visit the grave of her friend up in Orem. Despite all the drama of finding out where she is buried, we rode up and took time to visit her grave site. We laughed. We cried. Above all, we felt the spirit strongly testifying of how our friend is still around, just working in a different area now. I always love visiting cemeteries. You can always feel something different. I would highly suggest taking a trip to visit ancestors or friends that are buried nearby.

After our memorial visit, I had to run off and prepare the Sacrament Meeting program for our ward. Luckily the communications co-chair knows what she is doing. She had already planned out most of the program. However, we ran into problems when the copy machine wasn't working. Luckily a nice brother in another ward helped us out and we were able to print the programs. That was an adventure!

Dinner after church was a great opportunity. My friends up in Highland invited me up to dinner along with another Returned Missionary who had recently returned from Chile. We ate and talked for a couple of hours with their family and even talked over Skype with their grandparents in Chile. It was a great time to reminisce  with them.

Tunnel Singing was very uplifting, as is normal. After we had an awesome game of Dominion at our apartment. If you have never played, come over and ask either myself or my roommate Tyler. We will be glad to explain how to play. :) Maybe this weekend we can play.

Am I Proud to Be an American?

This weekend is the 4th of July, or Independence Day in the United States of America. One of my favorite songs during this time of celebrating the country is "God Bless the USA." The words paint a detailed picture of the beauty of the United States, both in a physical and emotional aspect. Our country is often depicted in a majestic manner such as this, making it seem like the greatest in the world and we often hear those bold words, "I'm proud to be an American."  With all of the issues that have been cropping up over the past couple of years such as impeachment, systemic racism, foreign intervention, and most significantly the COVID-19 pandemic, I have reflected deeply about what we celebrate with the 4th of July. These issues are just a few of the many that have made me wonder about the country we praise so proudly.  Am I really proud to be an American?  Thomas Jefferson wrote the candid words of the Declaration of Independence, which were th...

I like Happiness

Dear Readers, Happiness is great, don't you agree? Just the other night, it was a very frustrating and confusing night out with the Ensemble yet again, but I came back to my friend's house to hang out and just decided that being happy was more important than giving in to my gossiping desires. The rest of the night was just brilliant after I decided that. This morning was another example: I woke up late and was again frustrated. What did I do? I went to school and decided to be happy. The rest of the day went great! Be Happy! :D

Book of Mormon Stories

Dear Reader, Today I simply want to share a story that has strengthened my testimony of the Book of Mormon over the years. Professor Felix Mynhardt was fluent in many languages, including English, Afrikaans, Hebrew and Egyptian, as well as many others. He was employed as a language professor when he had been praying that the Lord would give him some divinely important task that would justify his having this gift of language from God. In 1970 he visited with a group of Mormon leaders, who sought to commission him to translate the Book of Mormon from English into Afrikaans. He said that he knew of the Book of Mormon from his religions studies, and his initial reaction was that he did not want to be involved in translating it. However, that evening, as he prayed upon his knees, as was his habit, he said the Spirit of the Lord convinced him. The message was something on the order of, "You asked me for a great, divinely inspired task of translation, I sent it to you in the form o...
