Another year older and wiser too!

Dear Reader,

Happy Birthday to one of my best friends! Ok, it was his birthday yesterday and I was incredibly busy all day, but he is very important so he still needs recognition. Tyler, my roommate for over a year now, is one of my best friends and we will be friends for life. It is pretty incredible how similar our opinions are on different topics of life. Let me tell you a little about how marvelous Tyler is.

We have lived together for over a year and have never had a serious fight. Obviously we have had disagreements, but Tyler is so relaxed and easy-going that we have never even come close to being mad at each other. That takes talent when living with me.

Tyler is also one of the smartest people I have ever met, both in books smarts and street smarts. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Neuroscience. He is amazing with numbers. For heaven's sake, we discuss GMAT math questions together. Pretty cool, right? He is also very wise when it comes to life's ups and downs. I can't begin to explain how understanding he is whenever we talk about relationships religion. He is wise beyond his years. He sometimes has weird ideas, but he has lots of good ones that kind of overshadows the weird ones.

The last attribute I'll mention (By no means is it the last good attribute that Tyler has) is his giving personality. Those who have visited our apartment know that we have a "community shelf" in the kitchen. This shelf is free game for anyone who comes to the apartment. This is good and bad. We shelve food that disappears quickly and we shelve items like light bulbs. In a few words, anything on this shelf is free game for anyone. Tyler has by far contributed most to the community shelf. That is just one example of how much he is willing to give. Another part of his giving attitude is immediate reaction to give. He won't think twice about giving a ride to someone or buying lots of food for a party that he's not even hosting.

I love Tyler. He has shown me so much Christ-like love this year that we have lived together. I am glad to count him as a friend. Happy Birthday, Bro.

You make me dance like a fool, forget how to breath, shine like gold...

Dear Readers, Ok, so I can't fit the entire title into the title box. It's a good song, go look it up: "You make me smile." The title can apply to anyone, I've found. The rest of the lyrics would probably refer to a best friend or a significant other, but anyone can make you smile. They all have the own way of doing it. Some are just funny all the time and you can't help smiling when you're around that person. I know some who take care of people so well that you just smile when they're doing something for another. Others you can talk to about your problems and no matter what they say, it seems to make sense and you feel better...thus a smile. Ok, a smile doesn't always come in that case, but people usually smile after that. Anyone can have a blonde moment and make everyone smile because of it. I'm glad I've got friends who can do all of these: have blonde moments, take care of others or have an episode of hyperactivity that you can't he...

Am I Proud to Be an American?

This weekend is the 4th of July, or Independence Day in the United States of America. One of my favorite songs during this time of celebrating the country is "God Bless the USA." The words paint a detailed picture of the beauty of the United States, both in a physical and emotional aspect. Our country is often depicted in a majestic manner such as this, making it seem like the greatest in the world and we often hear those bold words, "I'm proud to be an American."  With all of the issues that have been cropping up over the past couple of years such as impeachment, systemic racism, foreign intervention, and most significantly the COVID-19 pandemic, I have reflected deeply about what we celebrate with the 4th of July. These issues are just a few of the many that have made me wonder about the country we praise so proudly.  Am I really proud to be an American?  Thomas Jefferson wrote the candid words of the Declaration of Independence, which were th...

I Don't Wanna Be Anything Other Than Me

Dear Reader,  I work online at one of my part-time jobs. Sometimes it is required of me to look up a person's credentials or accomplishments to better fill out a description of their time on the radio. This means I do Google searches quite frequently to find their websites, their social media profiles, etc. By no means am I a guru on the world wide web, but I have been around the internet a few times. Why does any of this matter to you, reader? It matters because I have found a few things that are essential to being safe online. As much as anyone hates to admit, the persona built on the web greatly affects the actual person outside of technology. It matters because we need to review the tips on how to remain safe online regularly.  Here is a quick example of how important it is to monitor what you put online. If you put "Dale Lundstrom" into a Google search, there are 743 results as of today. A good number of those have nothing to do with me, it's true. Howe...
